Project Roundup: June
This is coming a bit late seeing as we’re in the middle of July, but every month I’m going to do a roundup of all the projects I’ve worked on, plus some of my favourite projects that people have made from my patterns.
June was a bit of a slower month because for the last week of May and the first week of June, I wasn’t allowed to knit. I’ve been having some hand and wrist problems so the doctor recommended taking a break for a few weeks, which was definitely a good test of my patience. But I made it through and it was good to spend some time doing other knitting-related things like setting up my website. Even with the break, I finished two projects and managed to make good progress on another WIP. If you’d like more details about the yarn, pattern, needles or colour ways, click on the project name to check out the project on Ravelry.
Brooklynite (In Progress)
This is a pattern I’m designing for Stitch & Hustle. It’s a fingering weight linen stitch scarf for my husband, who doesn’t really like the look of most knitting. The yarn is Bella Cash from Universal, and it’s gorgeous and squishy. I’ll be doing a whole blog series about the design of this one closer to the release date, so I won’t go into a lot of detail here. But suffice to say it’s taking a while but I’m making good progress!
Pink Cables (June 11 - June 18)
About a year ago, my friend Amanda sent me a care package full of yarn and some other goodies. Then she sent me a Christmas present. And then a big box of presents for my daughter. I’ve been meaning to send her something knit and some yarn for a very long time, but I just hadn’t gotten around to it - so I finally fixed that. Universal Yarn had given me two different yarns to try out for the Brooklynite pattern, so I had an extra ball of Whisper Lace from Fibra Natura - the yarn is lovely but it was too light weight for the scarf. So I held it double and used it to make a lovely cabled hat for Amanda, using the Gradient Color Adult Hat pattern from Crazy Hands.
To the beach! (June 24 - june 28)
I bought the French Market Bag pattern from Two of Wands over a year ago. When I went to cast it on in the middle of June, I realised it was crochet! I don’t really know why I bought it - I must’ve been feeling brave. Or just really wanted the bag.
This project was really helpful in teaching me a bit more about crochet. I’m getting a better sense now of what various stitches and chains do and how they affect each other. I’m pretty proud of myself for making this since I think it’s the first thing I’ve crocheted that wasn’t a toy. The holes in the net are a bit too big for me to use this as a shopping bag (a lot of my clothes don’t have pockets and I think my keys would fall out) so I’m thinking I’ll mainly use it as a beach bag.
The yarn is Bamboo Color Pop from Universal (are you sensing a theme this month?) which I got it in my goody bag when I went to Stitch Up Brooklyn. The bamboo/cotton blend is absolutely gorgeous - it’s super soft and the colours are delightful. I also used some leftover Pima Cotton from WAK for the trimming.
Nephew Warmer #1 and #2 (By Caity)
My lovely friend Caity bought the Building Blocks Baby Blanket pattern and two name charts a few months ago to make blankets for her twin nephews. I love the colours she chose - they’re such pretty shades of blue. She also added a crochet border around the edges of her blankets which give it really a nice touch.
Four Way Stop Blanket (By Katherine)
I really love Katherine’s colours in her Four Way Stop blanket. Purple is my favourite colour but for some reason I’ve always gravitated heavily to blue in my stash, so the combo of neutrals and light greeny-blue colours here makes me so happy. Also I can’t get over how neat her stitches are - I’m sort’ve mesmerised by their consistency!
That’s it for last month! What’s your favourite project that you finished in June?
